Welcome to Bluebonnet Counseling Association!

What is Bluebonnet Counseling Association?

Bluebonnet Counseling Association is one of four (4) chapters in our region (Region V) of the Texas Counseling Association.  The association is organized and governed in accordance with the bylaws of the Texas Counseling Association.  The Bluebonnet Counseling Association (BCA) encompasses Bastrop, Burleson, Caldwell, Fayette, Gonzales Lee, Milam, rural Travis and Williamson counties.

The purpose of the association is to serve as a personal and professional growth avenue for its members.  The association also strives to improve the quality of counseling services in this area, promote communication among members of the association, and to elevate the standards of the counseling profession.

Membership is open to any person whose primary responsibilities or interests are in the area of human development, specifically, guidance, counseling, or personnel work and others with similar interests and responsibilities, school social workers, school psychologists, and paraprofessionals in counseling.  Such persons may become members of the Association upon payment of the annual dues to BCA, which is currently $25, and includes professional development.

Our current officers are:  Cynthia Lively, President, Lisa Willlmon, Secretary, Layla (Glover) Nations, Treasurer, Debra Francis, Senator, and Debbie Day, Alternate Senator.  Bill Hernandez is our President- Elect.  All terms of office, except for the Senator, are for one year.  The Senator’s term is for three years.

Bluebonnet Counseling Association’s goals for this year include increasing its membership and leadership interest.  Becoming involved with BCA not only increases communication and professionalism within the local community, it also offers the opportunity to become a part of the decision-making process of our profession at the local and state level.  Emerging leaders for TCA chapters are provided with training and monetary compensation for their participation.  Members are given pertinent information regarding legislation that is directly related to the profession and guidance as to how one may become more involved in voicing opinions and concerns to the appropriate legislators.  Members of BCA have participated during lobby day at the state capital.

Making Connections

In many ways, my sister and I have pulled my father kicking and screaming into the 21st century. She bought him a digital picture frame for Christmas.  I found it in the box when I visited this summer, and set it up for him.  He has no email.  Although he now has a cell phone, he most often uses a landline and snail mail.  Don’t even ask him what lol and brb mean!

Our world today is interconnected electronically, but we are often more busy, but less connected socially.   My hope is that, at least in some small way, Bluebonnet Counseling Association can find ways to promote our common goals and support each other. So our theme for this year is Making Connections. We think the website is a good start, so keep coming back for more updates. Feel free to contact any of our officers with questions.

Our goals include promoting connections between school counselors, private practice counselors, service organizations and other mental health providers to help communities, our clients, and each other.  BCA will offer professional development opportunities in Trauma Debriefing and Ethics during this year, and are excited to kick off the year with the Community Resource Fair to allow a networking opportunity.  We will also send out a survey so we know what your needs are in your area, and what BCA might be able to do to support efforts in our various communities.

                Let’s stay connected!
